NEWSMAKER: Media Briefing on Humanitarian Aid Groups to Call for Sustained, Unfettered Access to Syria
Leaders of Mercy Corps, Oxfam America and the Syrian American Medical Society to Address World’s Worst Humanitarian Crisis in a Generation at March 3 Newsmaker
The chief executives of leading responders to the five-year Syrian humanitarian crisis will discuss the situation in Syria at a National Press Club Newsmaker, 10 a.m., March 3 in the club’s Bloomberg Room. The topics they will address include: the lack of sustained and safe humanitarian access for relief workers and supplies; the needs of an exponentially growing refugee population; and the necessary steps required to re-orient international aid once a ceasefire is reached. Panelists include:
- Neal Keny-Guyer, Chief Executive Officer, Mercy Corps
- Raymond Offenheiser, President, Oxfam America
- Zaher Sahloul, Past President and Senior Advisor, Syrian American Medical Society
Battlefields close to Syria’s civilian population have hampered aid groups. Some United Nations convoys succeed in reaching trapped civilians, however food and medicine are in short supply for millions touched by Syria’s civil war.
